  1. 01

    Choosing the Right Review

    Narrative, systematic, scoping, rapid, and umbrella reviews and meta-analyses — which one fits a thesis chapter, a survey paper, or a funding proposal.

  2. 02

    Framing the Question & Protocol

    Scoping the topic with PICO, PCC, and SPIDER, fixing inclusion and exclusion criteria before you search, and registering a protocol on PROSPERO or OSF.

  3. 03

    Search Strategy & Databases

    Boolean search strings, controlled vocabularies like MeSH, choosing between Scopus, Web of Science, IEEE Xplore, ACM DL, PubMed, and arXiv, and backward/forward snowballing.

  4. 04

    AI-Assisted & Agentic Discovery

    Semantic Scholar, Connected Papers, ResearchRabbit, and Elicit — plus an agentic search-and-summarise pipeline with human checkpoints, and how to verify every AI-suggested citation.

  5. 05

    Screening & PRISMA 2020

    Title/abstract and full-text screening in Rayyan, dual screening and conflict resolution, logging every decision, and drawing a PRISMA 2020 flow diagram.

  6. 06

    Reading, Extraction & Quality Appraisal

    Three-pass reading, data-extraction sheets, and critical appraisal with CASP and risk-of-bias checklists — so weak evidence doesn't carry your argument.

  7. 07

    Synthesis & Gap Analysis

    Thematic, methodological, and chronological synthesis with a concept matrix — then turning contradictions and blind spots into research questions.

  8. 08

    Writing the Review

    Structuring a review chapter or survey paper, synthesis over summary, taxonomy figures and comparison tables, and clean citations with Zotero and BibTeX.
